GIBSON L-5 CES Master Model, 1990

sunburst. It's hard to describe a guitar like this: an exceptional instrument in every respect. Beautiful, stunning woods, accurate construction, wonderful sound, fantastic playability. Solid, hand-carved spruce top with tight grain and beautiful figure. Two-piece solid maple back, hand-carved, with exceptional flame and typical "quarter-sawn" vertical figure. Flamed maple neck (5 piece construction, three pieces of maple with two mahogany laminate stripes). Figured maple sides. Two labels inside, and one bears the "master model" designation with the signature of the luthier responsible for the construction of this particular instrument, James W. Hutchins. Faultless conditions, only some light playing wear on the pickup covers and some clear lacquer wear on the fretboard binding (which can be easily touched-up). Mother-of-pearl inlays in the ebony of fretboard, bridge base and insert of the tailpiece. The guitar sounds great both acoustically and electrically, a radical departure from the ugly Norlin era L-5s: thanks to instruments like this one, Gibson name has reached again the top of the quality in american lutherie. Original hardshell case.
